Famed as ‘Srinagar’s Jewel’, the Dal Lake is the major attraction of Srinagar. This beautiful glittering lake is encircled by the great Himayalas, and is celebrated for its amazing houseboat and Shikara rides. The beauty of this lake is such that it has inspired many poets and painters alike.

The Mughal Gardens of Srinagar are also a major attraction of this city. Built by the Mughals, Shalimar, Nishat and Chasm-e-Shahi constitute the Mughal Gardens of Srinagar. Famour for their architectural exquisiteness, the Shalimar Bagh was built as a summer residence and royal court in the 17th century. In autumn, the Mughal Gardens are covered with fallen red golden leaves.

Srinagar is also popular for Hazratbal Shrine, located on the western bank of Dal Lake. A revered place among Muslims, the shrine houses the hair relic of Prophet Mohammad. On various Muslim festivals, the relic is displayed to public.

Another famous lake of Srinagar is the Nagin Lake. A small distance away from the Dal Lake, the Nagin Lake is where you can boat, swim and attempt water skiing.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the ancient Shankaracharya Temple also known as Jyesteshwara temple is located at a height of 1,100 feet on the top of Shankaracharya hill. The temple offers the panoramic views of Srinagar and its calm surroundings of are worth experiencing.

How to Reach Srinagar

By Air: The nearest airport is Srinagar airport which is located at a distance of 14 kms from the city. There are regular flights from Delhi, Mumbai and other major cities to Srinagar. Taxis, cabs can be taken from the airport.
By Rail: At 60 kms Udhampur railway station is the nearest railway station to Srinagar. The other railway station is Jammu Tawi which is 293 kms from the city. Trains from all metro cities of India connect Srinagar.
By Road: Tourists can take taxis and private coaches from Jammu Tawi to reach Srinagar. State-run bus services are also available from Jammu.
