Golden Temple History

The idea of Golden Temple was conceptualised by the Fifth Nanak, Guru Arjan Sahib. He wanted to create a central worship place for the Sikhs, and created this architectural wonder. Though prior to Guru Arjan Sahib, the task of building the holy tank (Amrit Sarovar) was designed by Guru Amardas Sahib, it was finally executed by Guru Ramdas Sahib, under the supervision of Baba Budha Ji.
